About the position

The Human Resource Generalist at Chugach Electric Association is a key member of the HR team, specializing in benefits management, HR compliance, and leave management processes. This role involves supporting various HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations, while ensuring that HR programs meet established goals and compliance standards. The position also requires maintaining the HRIS system, administering benefit plans, and participating in employee engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Administers benefit program for management employees.
  • Reviews annual renewal material and proposes plan design changes.
  • Provides consultation to employees regarding complex benefit administration issues.
  • Assists with administration of Chugach's management retirement program.
  • Maintains Chugach's Affirmative Action Program in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with EEO requirements.
  • Performs all administrative duties associated with 401(k) and 457(b) plans.
  • Provides information and guidance to employees regarding benefits.
  • Works with supervisory personnel to ensure compliance with workers' compensation, FMLA, and ADA requirements.
  • Coordinates with employees and insurance providers regarding workers' compensation claims.
  • Maintains hiring guidelines for commercial drivers and oversees driver qualification files.
  • Administers Chugach's drug & alcohol testing program and ensures compliance with random testing requirements.
  • Assists with administration of management wage & salary program.
  • Works with consultants to ensure proper grading of management positions and assists with annual wage updates.
  • Oversees updates to union pay scales as required by collective bargaining agreements.
  • Works with HR staff in the preparation and maintenance of position descriptions.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory processes in applicable program areas.
  • Partners with HR staff to design reporting and metrics supporting program deliverables.
  • Monitors company-wide tracking of HR programs including travel, training, and employee development.
  • Develops and provides regular reporting on YTD figures by division.
  • Creates and oversees the interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Participates in various employee engagement activities such as recognition awards and charitable campaigns.
  • Contributes to the HR management budgeting process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Industrial Relations, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources.
  • Experience in benefits administration, including group benefit plan design and enrollment.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation, FMLA, and ADA compliance.
  • Experience with HR compliance reporting and audit practices.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft Office applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • PHR/SPHR Certification preferred.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
