About the position

The Human Resource Generalist at Evergreen Goodwill plays a crucial role in fostering a positive work environment and ensuring effective employee relations. This position is responsible for providing advocacy, advice, and assistance regarding company policies and procedures, as well as coordinating the resolution of policy-related issues. The HR Generalist will engage in various employee relations activities, including counseling and coaching, and will implement people and culture programs that encompass staffing, performance management, compensation, benefits, and training. This role also involves assisting in organizational training and development efforts, identifying trends and issues, and recommending appropriate actions to address them. In addition to these responsibilities, the HR Generalist will partner with store management to assist in recruiting efforts by engaging with community services, attending events, and collaborating with employment agencies. A strong understanding of employment laws is essential, as the HR Generalist will manage investigations and ensure compliance with various human resources policies and procedures. The position requires maintaining accurate records and files to support audits and reviews, as well as providing orientation and ongoing information to employees regarding HR policies. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for compiling and distributing reports on personnel-related issues, maintaining HR databases, and upholding safe work practices to promote a culture of safety within the organization. This role may involve special projects and other duties as assigned, requiring flexibility and adaptability to changing needs within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide employee relations advocacy, advice, and assistance on company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems and inquiries.
  • Responsible for all employee relations activities, including counseling and coaching.
  • Implement people and culture programs and procedures for all employees, including staffing, performance management, and training.
  • Assist in organizational training and development efforts and identify trends and issues.
  • Partner with store management to assist in recruiting applicants by engaging with community services and attending events.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of employment laws and manage investigations as needed.
  • Process documents and forms necessary for the implementation of HR policies and programs.
  • Maintain necessary records and files to support review and audit processes.
  • Assist in the management and administration of company benefit programs.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing information on HR policies and procedures to employees.
  • Compile, update, verify, generate, and distribute department reports on personnel-related issues.
  • Maintain HR databases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
  • Uphold safe work practices and train employees on safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Psychology, or equivalent coursework or experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in employee relations or human resources.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and thorough knowledge of HR policies and procedures.
  • Investigative skills and internal/external customer service skills.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Great Plains.

Nice-to-haves

  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
