About the position

The Human Resource Generalist plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the People Operations department at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska. This position involves various HR functions including recruiting, hiring, employee benefits management, and ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws. The HR Generalist will work closely with the Director of People Operations to foster a positive work environment and support the organization's mission to empower youth in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions.
  • Conduct pre-employment background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Conduct onboarding and new hire orientation processes including fingerprinting and badge ID production.
  • Complete current and past employee verification inquiries via phone, e-mail, and fax.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including compensation, benefits, and leave management.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex matters to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred.
  • At least one year of progressive experience in Human Resources management preferred.
  • SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain first aid and CPR certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Willingness to complete an employer-supported education completion plan for a related B.A. within 6 years.
