About the position

Under the direction of the Senior HR Manager for Connecticut, as well as HR Department Team leads, this position performs a variety of human resources support functions including benefits and operational/data support. The role acts as the benefits and leave administration lead for Connecticut, ensuring compliance with all employment and labor-related laws while maintaining accuracy and timeliness in work processes. The individual will serve as a backup for the Senior HR Manager in Connecticut as needed, providing essential support to the HR team and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the department. The essential job duties and responsibilities include serving as the subject matter expert for Connecticut leave programs, interpreting and administering leave programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal and state employment laws such as FMLA, CT-FML, ADA, USERRA, and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. The position involves independently approving and/or denying leave cases based on relevant medical information, coordinating and organizing all medical information while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and Employee Privacy guidelines. Additionally, the role oversees the proper and timely digitization of all leave-related files and works closely with Payroll to ensure accurate pay for employees on leave. Maintaining appropriate contact with all employees on leave and coordinating all aspects of their return to work is a critical responsibility. The individual will also communicate and collaborate with HR teammates to ensure consistency and quality of practices and work. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the HR department's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Connecticut leave programs in alignment with HR leadership and the legal department.
  • Interpret and administer leave programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal and state employment laws.
  • Independently approve and/or deny leave cases based on relevant medical information.
  • Coordinate and organize all medical information while ensuring HIPAA and Employee Privacy guidelines are monitored and executed.
  • Oversee the proper and timely digitization of all leave-related files.
  • Work closely with Payroll to ensure accurate pay for employees on leave.
  • Maintain contact with all employees on leave and coordinate their return to work.
  • Act as backup to the Senior HR Manager in their absence or as workload requires.
  • Communicate and collaborate with HR teammates to ensure consistency and quality of practices and work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years' experience in an HR administrative function or two years in an HR generalist role.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, business administration, or related field required. Experience may be substituted for academic training.
