About the position

The Human Resources Assistant plays a vital role in supporting various HR functions, including benefits administration, leave management, and HRIS data entry. This position is responsible for handling sensitive medical information, ensuring compliance with benefit regulations, and maintaining accurate records. The HR Assistant collaborates with the Information and Benefits Manager and serves as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related inquiries and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Information and Benefits Manager with unemployment, Worker's Compensation, and leaves of absence for all employees.
  • Coordinate unemployment hearings and gather necessary documents for each hearing.
  • Provide communication with schools regarding accident reports and medical approvals for returning to work.
  • Process accident reports, leave requests, and unemployment claims, ensuring follow-up communication.
  • Assist with compliance of medical leaves of absence and manage related correspondence.
  • Enter and maintain data in HRIS systems such as Munis and Kronos.
  • Support in processing sick bank requests and responses.
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and ensure proper handling of sensitive information.
  • Greet visitors, determine their needs, and direct them appropriately.
  • Operate office equipment to duplicate forms and documents as required.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Relevant associate's degree or equivalent experience (3 years in a relevant field may substitute for education).
  • Knowledge of salary schedules and contracts for various employee groups.
  • Understanding of School Committee policies related to HR functions.
  • Familiarity with legal requirements related to HR functions.
  • Ability to develop and write reports and correspondence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Munis and Kronos HRIS systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
