About the position

The People First Generalist (HR Generalist) at Secure Transportation Company Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for managing human resources across a multi-state operation. This position requires a strong commitment to the company's core values and culture, ensuring effective communication and adherence to policies and procedures, as well as compliance with state and federal labor laws. The Generalist will report directly to the Manager of People First and collaborate with other members of the People First team to implement people and business initiatives consistently throughout the organization. In this role, the Generalist will be assigned to specific internal client groups and projects, managing all aspects of human resources activities. Key responsibilities include overseeing the hiring process, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) in onboarding new hires and consultants, and managing the performance management process, which involves coaching, conducting annual evaluations, and handling progressive discipline. The Generalist will also provide support and consultation to supervisors and managers on employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with HR policies and state and federal labor laws. The role requires proactive engagement in creating and streamlining processes to enhance departmental efficiency, as well as managing employee benefits, including medical, 401K, and voluntary plans. The Generalist will also oversee leaves of absence, including FMLA and ADAA, and assist with employee engagement events. Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential, along with effective communication and teamwork. The Generalist will become a subject matter expert in HRIS, ATS, and other software used at Secure, and will proactively identify needs for employee learning and development. Additionally, the Generalist will assist with recruiting for upper management positions and provide timely responses to employee requests.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and demonstrate the company core values at all times.
  • Create and streamline processes to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Oversee the hiring process for staff, including recruitment of qualified candidates.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the onboarding of new hires and consultants.
  • Manage the performance management process, including coaching, annual evaluations, and progressive discipline.
  • Provide support and consultation to supervisors and managers on employee relations issues.
  • Ensure HR compliance with state and federal labor laws.
  • Report, review, and close investigations within 7-10 business days.
  • Enforce company policies and manage the employee handbook.
  • Manage employee benefits, including medical, 401K, and voluntary plans.
  • Oversee leaves of absence, including FMLA, PFL, and ADAA.
  • Assist with employee engagement events and initiatives.
  • Proactively identify needs for employee learning and development.
  • Assist with recruiting needs for upper management positions.
  • Provide timely and accurate information/responses to emails and employee requests.
  • Proactively report on headcount, turnover, benefit enrollment, and other HR metrics.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of generalist experience in HR.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of working in a multi-state company.
  • Experience in payroll recordkeeping and timesheets as required by law.
  • Strong mindset for continuous improvement and meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Ability to lead by example and work with minimal supervision.
  • High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy with MS Office.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State labor laws.
  • Some management experience is preferred.

  • Process improvement experience is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software systems.
