About the position

As a Human Resource Specialist for Iowa Select Farms, you will play a crucial role in executing various processes, programs, and policies within the Human Resource department. This position involves a range of responsibilities including interviewing and hiring candidates, assisting employees with their inquiries, providing orientation for new hires, and offering resources and guidance to managers and supervisors. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and records while building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders. The role requires adherence to established guidelines and a commitment to the company's core values, which emphasize respect, accountability, good decision-making, and flexibility. In this position, you will process incoming applications, prescreen candidates, and collaborate with managers to understand the skills and competencies required for open positions. You will conduct background checks and employee eligibility verifications, implement new hire orientation programs, and maintain confidentiality of all personnel information. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and updating necessary standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals, and company documents, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. You will also handle inquiries from applicants, employees, and managers regarding employment-related matters, assist in training and development programs, and participate in company events and meetings. Proficiency in HRIS and talent management systems, as well as Microsoft Office Suite, is essential for success in this role. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process incoming online and paper applications
  • Prescreen new applicants
  • Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified applicants for open positions
  • Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications
  • Implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs
  • Complete new hire paperwork and coordinate start dates and locations
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and records, both verbal and written
  • Establish, maintain, file, and audit electronic and/or paper personnel documentation & investigation files
  • Develop, maintain, and update necessary SOPs, competencies, manuals, company documents, and PowerPoints
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Review policies and practices to maintain compliance and updates
  • Ensure consistent processes and procedures are followed regarding disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, and performance management
  • Handle applicant, employee, and manager employment-related inquiries
  • Assist and lead training and developmental programs
  • Serve as a backup at the front desk with receptionist duties
  • Attend company events and meetings and assist facilitation as needed
  • Participate in routine team meetings to assist in developing department goals
  • Proficiently use HRIS and talent management systems including ADP WorkforceNow, eI9, and eVerify
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • At least three years of equivalent Human Resources experience
  • Bilingual in verbal and written English & Spanish is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
