About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Beacon Academy of Nevada plays a crucial role in the strategic and operational management of human resources functions within the organization. Reporting directly to school administration, this position is responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating innovative human resource programs that align with the mission and vision of the academy. The specialist will provide leadership in the development of integrated human resources systems to support management activities, conduct analyses to support institutional planning, and offer business analyst support for HR process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of federal, state, and local requirements, along with strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and communication skills. The role involves interpreting and administering contracts, drafting faculty and staff contracts, maintaining personnel files, and overseeing the onboarding process for new hires. Additionally, the specialist will conduct reference and background checks, manage employee records, and assist in implementing compensation and benefits programs. The Human Resources Specialist will also be responsible for advising employees on policies and programs, resolving routine issues, and ensuring compliance with labor legislation. This position requires a proactive approach to developing training programs, managing payroll processes, and maintaining accurate records as required by law and corporate policy. The specialist will collaborate with school administration to address grievances, complaints, and employee relations issues, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all staff.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and administer contracts, agreements, stipends, etc.
  • Draft annual classified and certificated faculty and staff contracts for review and approval by School Administration.
  • Meet with all faculty and staff to review annual contracts and job descriptions.
  • Maintain fiscal year 10-month and 12-month employee calendars.
  • Organize and maintain personnel files in Paycom HRIS System.
  • Complete the onboarding process for new hires and update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status, ensuring the timely completion of I-9 documents and records.
  • Conduct reference checks, background checks, verification of experience, AB362 forms for all new hires.
  • Ensure that all employee records and paperwork is timely processed.
  • Maintain detailed job descriptions along with salary records.
  • Manage and maintain NVPERS Member Enrollment and Survivor Beneficiary Forms.
  • Assist school administration in implementing an employee compensation and benefits administration program.
  • Assist and collaborate with school administration for the effective talent acquisition process.
  • Assist school administration in researching and drafting health and human resources policies.
  • Provide advice to employees regarding policies, programs, career development, regulations, issues, options, etc.
  • Resolve routine issues and employee concerns (e.g., medical claims, salary offers, availability/schedule training programs, etc.).
  • Review and evaluate employment policies, practices, procedures, and programs.
  • Assist school administration in investigating and resolving grievances, complaints, and/or employee relations issues.
  • Assist in investigating and providing recommendations regarding policy/legal violations.
  • Stay up-to-date and comply with changes in labor legislation.
  • Administer health, vision, dental, and life insurance programs for the employees and their families/dependents.
  • Inform Employee about additional benefits offered by BANV (e.g. Colonial Life, 403(b), etc.).
  • Develop training, communications, presentations and/or information programs for employees.
  • Responsible for annual training of faculty and staff and for new hire onboarding and training.
  • Schedule meetings and interviews as requested by school administration.
  • Provide internal notifications for new hires, transfers and terminations to appropriate staff.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll and assist administration with verification and final approval of timesheets/payroll PTO tracking.
  • Manage Applicant Tracking System.
  • Manage FMLA, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, NLRA, Title VII rules and regulations.
  • Manage workers comp claims.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Partner with management to provide consulting, training, and development services to develop workforce competence, employee wellness, and organizational capability.
  • Resolve complex and unusual issues and employee concerns (e.g., criminal activity, security violations, employee conflicts, loss of medical coverage, visa violations, claims of discrimination etc.).
  • Provide analysis and recommendations regarding strategies for various Human Resources programs/services including compensation, employee relations, wellness, training, etc.
  • Assist with annual Financial Audit.
  • Assist School Administration with grant management by providing payroll documentation, stipend agreements, etc.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, corporation policy, and administrative regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Human Resources Management, or related field.
  • Certified Professional in Human Resources, preferred (e.g. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP).
  • Minimum of three to five years successful relevant work experience in Human Resources, Emergency Preparedness, Workplace Safety, Regulatory Compliance (i.e. OSHA, EEO, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, SNHD, Fire Life Safety, SAM, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with Human Resources information Systems (HRIS), Paycom preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with NVPERS, preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of data, and have knowledge and understanding of FERPA & HIPAA requirements.
