About the position

The Human Resource Specialist position at Hinds County, Mississippi, is responsible for managing the full recruitment cycle, supporting Workday functionalities, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and internal policies. Responsibilities

  • Manage the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, screening candidates, and onboarding new hires.
  • Provide support for Workday functionalities, including employee onboarding, performance management, and reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate employee records and ensure data privacy.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and internal policies.
  • Prepare letters and documents to ensure compliance with COBRA federal guidelines.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain documentation related to employee records, benefits, and HR policies.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and develop effective recruitment strategies.
  • Screen resumes and conduct initial interviews to identify qualified candidates.
  • Coordinate the hiring process, including scheduling interviews and communicating with candidates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in personnel management, business administration, public administration or related field and two (2) years of experience in work related to the above-described duties, preferably in a human resource department.
  • OR An associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major courses in human resource with (5) five years of experience in work related to the above-described duties, preferably in a human resource department.
  • Possession of a valid Mississippi driver's license.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and a willingness to speak to groups.
  • Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
