About the position

The Human Resources Advisor (Compensation) will support the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department, which serves over 1000 employees. This role involves advising leadership on compensation matters, driving resolutions, and acting as a subject matter expert in HR processes. The advisor will focus on compensation strategies, HRIS maintenance, and provide support to HR staff, requiring strong consulting skills and a passion for customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist HR management in planning, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating major HR programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in providing advice and counsel to management and employee groups on HR issues and applicable regulations.
  • Implement HR programs, procedures, processes, and strategies.
  • Recommend enhancements to improve policies, procedures, operational efficiency, and service quality; monitor implementation of agreed actions.
  • Advise and influence management in making sound HR-related decisions.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend solutions for various HR problems using morale indicators and other personnel measurements.
  • Provide training to managers and supervisors on HR topics and procedures.
  • Research, gather, analyze, and evaluate data and information; monitor program trends and develop management reporting to support decision making.
  • Monitor and maintain system data, files, records, and reporting; develop and implement information tracking systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Three (3) years of HR experience, with one (1) additional year of experience substituting for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

  • Experience with reclassifications and restructures within the City of Austin.
  • Experience processing bilingual, acting pay, and salary adjustments.
  • Experience creating new job descriptions and career progression programs.
  • Experience generating presentable reports in Microsoft Excel and emerging HR technologies.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
