About the position

The position serves as a compensation advisor for the Austin Police Department's Civilian staff and Forensic Science Department. The role involves analyzing requests related to organizational structure changes, job descriptions, salary adjustments, and providing guidance on compensation procedures. The advisor will also train employees and management on compensation-related matters and act as a liaison with the Human Resources Department.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requests for organizational structure changes and job description modifications.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management on classification and compensation requests.
  • Train employees, supervisors, and managers on compensation procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison between the APD and HRD/Compensation.
  • Monitor and maintain system data, files, records, and reporting related to compensation.
  • Research and evaluate data to support decision-making and policy development.
  • Identify and recommend solutions for HR-related issues using personnel measurements.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders on HR programmatic analysis and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Four years of HR experience, with one additional year of experience substituting for education up to a maximum of four years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience analyzing compensation data for equitable pay practices.
  • Human Resources certification or ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
  • Experience with HRIS systems, particularly Banner and Workday.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to travel to multiple work locations.
