About the position

The Human Resources Analyst position within the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections focuses on supporting Employee Wellness and Recruitment. This role involves performing diversified and technical tasks related to human resources functions, including personnel and payroll actions, employee benefits administration, and compliance with Civil Service rules and regulations. The position may be filled at various levels (A, B, C, or Specialist) based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Process personnel and payroll actions for appointments, merit increases, promotions, transfers, and separations.
  • Compute routine pay changes and verify accuracy of information.
  • Provide basic explanations of employee benefit programs and advise employees on available options.
  • Distribute induction documents to new employees and ensure timely completion of required forms.
  • Review position descriptions for accuracy and resolve conflicts in information presented.
  • Participate in salary surveys and research for special pay actions.
  • Provide grievance forms and procedural instructions to employees.
  • Collect and compile statistical data for report preparation.
  • Assist agency personnel with Civil Service rules, Federal and State laws, and department policies.
  • Schedule interviews and screen applications for eligibility.
  • Assist supervisors with performance appraisal notifications and deadlines.
  • Schedule employees for required training courses and maintain records.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree or six years of full-time work experience in any field as a substitute for the degree.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and focus on customer service.
  • Skills in managing resources and using data to inform decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in human resources functions or related fields.
  • Knowledge of Civil Service rules and regulations.
