About the position

The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a dedicated Human Resources Analyst for the Classification and Compensation Division. This position is characterized by a high degree of difficulty and requires independent judgment and initiative. The successful candidate will engage in various activities including conducting compensation surveys, performing job audits, and creating or revising job descriptions. Additionally, the analyst will conduct classification and compensation studies to ensure that the city's pay structures are competitive and equitable. The role also involves administering HR processes within the INFOR ERP system, providing backup support to the Classification and Compensation Manager, and acting in their absence when necessary. The analyst will evaluate requests for new classification titles and existing classifications to determine the appropriateness of current titles and pay ranges. This includes planning and conducting studies, field audits, and discussions with employees and supervisors. The role requires a thorough review of requests for new positions and reclassifications, ensuring accurate placement within the organizational structure and compliance with FLSA exemption status. The analyst will also conduct compensation surveys to inform pay decisions and collective bargaining negotiations, utilizing spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess market trends. In addition to these responsibilities, the analyst will provide guidance to managers and employees regarding pay decisions, job evaluations, and the interpretation of policies and collective bargaining agreements. The position is integral to maintaining personnel records and ensuring compliance with established guidelines. Responsibilities

  • Conduct compensation surveys and analyze results to inform pay decisions.
  • Perform job audits and create or revise job descriptions as needed.
  • Evaluate requests for new classification titles and existing classifications.
  • Plan and conduct studies of classifications and compensation.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on pay decisions and job evaluations.
  • Serve as a backup to the Classification and Compensation Manager in HRIS processes.
  • Conduct field audits and discussions with employees and supervisors regarding classifications.
  • Ensure accurate recommendations for pay grade assignments based on evaluations.
  • Respond to surveys from other agencies regarding compensation and classification.
  • Act in the absence of the superior when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in human resources, business or public administration, or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in job evaluation, classification, and salary administration, preferably with a government agency.
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with functional ERP systems.

Nice-to-haves
