About the position

The Human Resources Assistant (Employee Relations) position within the Department of the Air Force is primarily focused on providing technical and administrative support to the Human Resources (HR) Workforce Effectiveness Section. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of various employee relations programs, including performance management and incentive awards. The assistant will serve as the primary point of contact for information and assistance regarding program requirements and processing procedures related to these programs. In this capacity, the HR Assistant will provide technical guidance and assistance for a variety of Employee Relations programs, which may include voluntary leave transfer, disciplinary actions, grievances, appeals, complaints, indebtedness, financial assistance, and drug testing. The position also involves performing administrative and clerical support duties to facilitate the operations of the Employee Relations Office. The role requires a strong understanding of employee relations rules, policies, methods, and procedures, as well as the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. The HR Assistant will be expected to research, analyze, interpret, and apply relevant rules and regulations while planning and organizing work to meet deadlines. This position is a term appointment, not to exceed two years, with the possibility of extension without further competition. The HR Assistant will work full-time at Scott AFB, IL, and while the position is not remote, telework may be available as determined by agency policy. Occasional travel may be required for this role, and the salary range for this position is between $50,204 and $65,267 per year, classified under the GS-7 pay scale.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for information and assistance regarding program requirements and processing procedures related to Performance Management and Incentive Awards Programs.
  • Provide technical guidance, information, and assistance for various Employee Relations programs such as voluntary leave transfer, disciplinary actions, grievances, appeals, complaints, indebtedness, financial assistance, and drug testing.
  • Perform administrative and clerical support duties in support of the Employee Relations Office.
  • Research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures relevant to employee relations.
  • Plan and organize work to meet deadlines and ensure efficient office operations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level or equivalent in other pay systems, or one full year of graduate-level education in a related field such as Human Resources.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of employee relations rules, policies, methods, and procedures to perform technical work.
  • Proficiency in various computer software programs to support office operations and produce documents such as letters, reports, and spreadsheets.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
