About the position

The Human Resources Assistant I position is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical human resources management duties within the Department of Public Safety. This role involves processing personnel transactions, maintaining applicant tracking systems, and assisting agency employees with benefits and payroll-related inquiries. The position requires effective communication and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, processes, or reviews personnel transaction forms concerning various employment actions.
• Maintains applicant tracking system and contacts applicants for clarification.
• Conducts preliminary interviews and arranges for interviews with agency personnel.
• Explains laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to personnel transactions.
• Prepares and maintains salary and payroll data, vacancy posting records, and individual personnel records.
• Assists agency employees with interpreting employee benefit plans and processing changes in coverage.
• Oversees the COBRA insurance program and processes retirement forms.
• Prepares routine correspondence and enters information into the computer system.

Requirements

• Three years of experience in clerical office work, including one year in technical human resources management or personnel administration.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of college for each year of required experience.
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for records maintenance and human resources management rules.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with applicant tracking systems.
• Familiarity with COBRA insurance processes.
• Knowledge of business communications and business mathematics.
