About the position

The Human Resources Assistant (Recruitment & Placement) position at the U.S. Department of Justice involves supporting the full lifecycle of the federal hiring process within the Office of Justice Programs. The role includes preparing job announcements, managing onboarding processes, and assisting HR Specialists with various personnel transactions. The position is based in Washington, DC, and requires in-person attendance at least four days per bi-weekly pay period, with occasional travel expected.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the full lifecycle of the federal hiring process, including preparing job announcements and responding to inquiries from job seekers.
  • Manage OJP's Recruiter page and coordinate job postings on social media.
  • Conduct orientation sessions for new employees and assist with employment documentation.
  • Handle employee personnel transactions and ensure accuracy in employee files.
  • Support onboarding and out-processing functions for employees.
  • Maintain hiring tracking systems and assist with clerical tasks such as report preparation and file maintenance.
  • Manage communications between Talent Management and various parties, including applicants and new hires.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in related HR functions.
  • Experience in preparing recruitment documents and managing logistics for new employee orientation.
  • Ability to provide guidance on HR procedures and support employee onboarding.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automated staffing systems and USAJOBS postings.
  • Familiarity with personnel action codes and legal authorities for personnel actions.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
