About the position

The Human Resources Assistant at Knife River plays a crucial role in supporting the HR department by providing clerical and administrative assistance. This position is designed for individuals who are self-motivated and capable of working in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the onboarding and recruitment processes, and handling employee inquiries. The role emphasizes a people-first approach, aligning with the company's commitment to building strong teams and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general clerical and administrative support to the HR department including data entry and filing.
  • Support the onboarding process including pre-hire screenings, background checks, scheduling pre-employment testing, completing employment verifications, and conducting new hire orientation.
  • Support the recruitment process by performing outreach and attending/organizing recruitment events.
  • Handle employee inquiries and provide assistance on HR-related issues.
  • Perform other HR related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of office/clerical support experience.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn new software programs (Smartsheets, UKG, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of self-motivation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills in person and virtually.
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to follow directions.
  • Strong sense of urgency, proven attention to detail, and comfortable working under deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
