About the position

The Human Resources Assistant at Mt. Hood Community College serves as the front-office customer service representative for the Human Resources Department, providing inclusive and culturally responsive assistance to staff and community members. This role involves complex administrative support for the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, contributing to budget preparation, collective bargaining discussions, and various administrative tasks and projects that support the department's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the front-office customer service representative to the Human Resources Department, providing general customer service in a welcoming manner.
  • Perform complex administrative support activities for the AVP of Human Resources, including managing calendars and arranging meetings.
  • Contribute to and coordinate assigned human resources-related projects, assisting with research and documentation.
  • Coordinate special events and programs, handling logistics and communications.
  • Provide administrative support to management's collective bargaining teams, including scheduling and note-taking.
  • Monitor department budgets and process related paperwork, including annual budget preparation.
  • Perform purchasing functions, including initiating purchase orders and processing invoices.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of process improvements.
  • Coordinate staff training and ensure materials are available via College systems.
  • Support general departmental needs, such as updating organizational charts and departmental website.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in business administration, office management or related field.
  • Three years of experience providing complex administrative support to an executive, department, or program.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and basic skills in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Experience providing customer service with a focus on inclusion and accessibility for a diverse community.
  • Experience working with and responding to people who may be experiencing crisis or elevated emotions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a Human Resources department.
  • Experience in project management, including planning and coordinating projects.
  • Experience providing support to management in a union environment, including the collective bargaining process.
