About the position

The Human Resources Benefits and Leave Specialist at Laredo College plays a crucial role in administering employee benefits and leave processes. This position involves managing accommodation requests, processing leave requests, and handling exit processing while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The specialist will provide support to employees and departments regarding benefits and leave policies, maintain accurate records, and assist in various HR functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the administration of employee benefits and retirement.
  • Process leave requests and manage accommodation requests.
  • Handle exit processing and reporting for state and government benefits.
  • Develop and maintain files, records, and other documents related to HR functions.
  • Provide day-to-day advice and assistance to departments and employees regarding HR policies and procedures.
  • Perform clerical and administrative support duties necessary for the operation of the department.
  • Prepare documents and compose correspondence on specific policy and procedural issues.
  • Process employee enrollment, changes, and termination of benefit plans.
  • Coordinate open enrollment periods and facilitate benefit presentations.
  • Track leave requests to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist with the interactive process for reasonable accommodations.
  • Process separation documentation needed by Payroll for final paychecks and benefit termination.
  • Prepare and submit required reports for state and government benefit programs.
  • Support general HR benefit training and assist with New Employee Orientation.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements affecting HR functions and ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in business, computer information systems, accounting, or related field; or a combination of degree and experience may substitute degree.
  • One to three years of human resources and/or employee benefits and leave administration experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in payroll, benefits, staffing, or accounting.
  • Experience in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Office and/or Computer related training certificates.
