About the position

The Human Resources Benefits Coordinator at the California Department of Aging is responsible for managing and administering various employee benefits programs, including leave benefits, medical leave, retirement, and workers' compensation. This role requires a high level of analytical and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently. The position is a 12-month limited-term role with the potential for extension and possible permanent placement.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform complex analytical personnel work for the California Department of Aging.
  • Consult on human resources areas such as leave benefits programs, medical leave, retirement, and workers' compensation.
  • Evaluate, interpret, analyze, and apply laws, rules, and regulations related to benefits administration.
  • Process various payroll transactions and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of benefits programs.

Requirements

  • Experience in benefits administration and workers' compensation law.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Mid-level analytical skills and experience with payroll processes.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in a human resources role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Personnel Action Manual (PAM) and Payroll Procedure Manual (PPM).
  • Experience with Family Medical Leave Act and State Disability Insurance.
