About the position

The Human Resources Benefits Coordinator at Pepperdine University plays a crucial role in providing exceptional and compassionate service to employees as they navigate the various benefits offered by the University. This position is responsible for delivering administrative support for the University's benefits program, which includes coordinating health and welfare benefits, managing retirement contributions, overseeing paid time off, and handling workers' compensation matters. The coordinator serves as the first point of contact for employee inquiries regarding benefits, ensuring that all employees receive timely and accurate information regarding their benefits options. In this role, the coordinator will assist with ongoing benefits enrollment, including processing changes that arise from qualifying life events such as marriage, childbirth, or changes in employment status. Utilizing Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and other relevant software, the coordinator will manage benefits data effectively and perform routine audits to ensure the accuracy and reliability of benefits data and its transmission to external partners. Additionally, the coordinator will support benefits-related tasks to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements. The coordinator will also assist with Pepperdine's Workers' Compensation program, which includes the day-to-day reporting of injuries to insurance carriers. Researching trends, best practices, and benchmarking will be part of the role to help maintain a competitive and compelling total compensation package that attracts and retains top talent for the University. Furthermore, the coordinator will assist with employee leaves of absence (LOAs), ensuring regular communication with employees throughout their LOA, processing payroll accurately for those on leave, and maintaining digital files of LOA documentation. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, and the coordinator is expected to uphold the University’s mission through their work.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as front-line customer service support for all employee benefits questions.
  • Assist with ongoing benefits enrollment, including changes resulting from qualifying life events.
  • Utilize HRIS and other relevant software to manage benefits data effectively.
  • Perform routine audits to ensure the accuracy and reliability of benefits data and transmissions to external partners.
  • Support benefits-related tasks to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Assist with Pepperdine's Workers' Compensation program and reporting of injuries to insurance carriers.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Google Drive, and Google Mail
  • Experience with complex databases
  • General office and administrative experience
  • Ability to multi-task and handle heavy visitor and phone traffic
  • Exceptional personalized customer service and verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Ability to demonstrate Pepperdine's mission in work performed
