About the position

The Human Resources Business Partner at CN is responsible for collaborating with assigned client groups to provide expert advice on Human Resources (HR) and Labour Relations (LR). This role focuses on implementing HR initiatives, including a talent management program, and acts as a change agent to enhance the HR approach within the organization. The position emphasizes coaching and influencing managers at all levels to foster positive relationships with employees and unions, ensuring a supportive and effective workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and counsel front line leaders on all aspects of human resources
  • Lead human resources coaching for both front line supervisors and managers
  • Participate in workforce planning and talent acquisition initiatives
  • Engage in performance management activities, including preparing performance improvement plans
  • Participate in talent management initiatives, identifying skills gaps and recommending development initiatives
  • Coach people managers in leadership development and company policies
  • Act as a point of contact for employees on HR-related matters
  • Lead the annual compensation review and promotion requests
  • Facilitate succession planning discussions and talent management initiatives
  • Participate in manager onboarding activities
  • Drive employee engagement and recognition initiatives
  • Review exit interviews with departing employees
  • Participate in policy and program definition, ensuring adherence
  • Counsel managers regarding HR policies

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of generalist experience in human resources
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or equivalent
  • Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) or actively working toward certification
  • Any designation related to HR would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrates agility and drives change
