The Office of Research and Innovation (OR&I) at Michigan State University (MSU) is a Major Administrative Unit (MAU) that plays a crucial role in supporting the university's research and creative activities. With a workforce of over 500 employees, OR&I is responsible for administering research funding, ensuring research integrity for both faculty and students, providing grant support services, fostering collaboration, licensing university inventions, and overseeing regulatory compliance. The Human Resources Business Partner / Unit Human Resources Administrator II will serve as the primary human resource contact for assigned centers and institutes within the MAU, working closely with the MAU HR Manager to ensure consistency and the implementation of best practices across the unit. In this role, the incumbent will oversee various HR functions including talent acquisition, performance management, staffing updates, disciplinary actions, and all HR-related functions for the assigned centers and institutes. Key responsibilities will include collaborating with the HR Manager to create a recruitment plan and pipeline for open positions, developing onboarding plans, and educating newly hired employees on HR policies, MAU policies, university policies, and internal procedures and regulations. The position will also involve consulting with the HR Manager on unit performance, organizational, and leadership matters, as well as managing the performance appraisal and feedback programs. The HR Business Partner will coach managers on the performance review process and appropriate feedback, language, and documentation. Additionally, the role requires the development and delivery of training programs for supervisors and employees, focusing on supervisory skills, interpersonal communication skills, and effective group interaction skills. The HR Business Partner will also be responsible for developing and implementing efficient HR documentation and processes, incorporating assessment and review components, and continuously improving processes based on feedback. Utilizing measurement concepts, data collection and analysis, and reporting tools will be essential to assist OR&I in tracking progress towards unit goals. A key aspect of this position is fostering a culture of equity, inclusion, and diversity within the organization, as well as overseeing and coordinating the hiring processes and personnel actions for the unit.
