About the position

The Human Resources Consultant 1 (HRC1) at Columbia Basin College is responsible for supporting the College's Student Employment Program by performing various professional and confidential duties. This role involves interpreting and applying employment guidelines, coordinating student employee placements, and ensuring a positive experience for student employees. The HRC1 serves as a front-line contact for students, staff, and the public, requiring excellent customer service skills and a thorough understanding of HR processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of Student Employment, including recruitment and advertising of Student Employment positions, placement of student employees within departments, and timely processing of applicable hiring paperwork in the Onboard system.
  • Assist student employees and supervisors in navigating through Student Employment Program processes, including the hiring process, explanation of eligibility and deadlines, and submission of timecards for payroll processing.
  • Serve as the front-line contact for staff, students, visitors, and the general public accessing student employment services in the Human Resources Office.
  • Develop advertising and outreach programs to aid in student employee recruitment and retention, including coordinating job fairs and appreciation events.
  • Present workshops and informational meetings to raise awareness of the College's student employment services.
  • Stay current on federal work study and employment laws, implementing necessary changes to maintain compliance within the Student Employment Program.
  • Maintain and update the Student Employment website and supervisor resources with relevant information.
  • Conduct orientation and training sessions for student employees and supervisors.
  • Coordinate with the Financial Aid Office to ensure oversight of the Student Employment Program.
  • Process and maintain employment applications for adjunct faculty and temporary hourly positions, scoring applicant files for appropriateness and releasing qualifying applications for review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and one year of related experience in career services, recruiting, human resources, or student services.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
