About the position

The Human Resources Coordinator/Talent Acquisition position at Dillard University is a full-time role that plays a crucial part in supporting the Human Resources Department and the Director of Human Resources. This position is designed to provide high-level organization and administrative support, ensuring that the HR department operates efficiently and effectively. The coordinator will serve as the first point of contact for the HR department, offering customer support, managing front office coverage, and addressing general inquiries from staff and visitors. This role is integral to maintaining a positive and professional image of the HR department within the university community. In addition to front office responsibilities, the HR Coordinator will manage the posting of job vacancies for both internal and external candidates. This includes overseeing the HR Talent Module for new applicants and new hires, as well as managing various recruitment functions. The coordinator will provide essential office support in onboarding, training, employee recognition, benefits open enrollment, and other general office duties. A key responsibility will be processing new hires in the HRIS Information Systems and managing the I-9 process through E-Verify, ensuring compliance with federal regulations. The HR Coordinator will collaborate closely with hiring managers and HR business partners to understand hiring needs and position profile requirements. They will develop and implement recruitment strategies in alignment with the Director's vision to support the university's business strategies. This role encompasses executing full life cycle recruiting activities for all positions within assigned areas, attending meetings and events as required, and supporting HR compliance by enforcing recruitment policies and programs. The coordinator will also maintain positive business relationships with area leaders and HR personnel, process federal and student work-study hires, and support various HR internal projects. They will prepare and file personnel records for new hires, transfers, and other employment activities, as well as process employment verifications and background screenings. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in planning and executing HR employee events and recognition programs, and may be required to work some evenings and weekends as needed. Other duties and projects may be assigned by the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the Human Resources Department, providing customer support and front office coverage.

  • Manage the recruitment functions of the department and provide office support in onboarding, training, employee recognition, benefits open enrollment, and general office duties.

  • Process employment verifications and background screening, notifying staff when cleared.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of HR employee events and recognition.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the AVP.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related fields is required.
  • 2 years of recruitment experience in human resources, and/or administrative support in a business or education-related field, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with E-verify, ADP, or other payroll and HRIS systems preferred.
  • Ability to transmit information in a professional manner, both interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations, and professional and business periodicals.
  • Ability to translate complex information to end-users with attention to detail.
  • Ability to calculate wages and percentages.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.
  • Considerable experience working with Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • SHRM Certification preferred.
  • Active participation in CUPA-HR is a plus.
