About the position

The Human Resources Data Analyst position at Durham County Government is responsible for performing complex employee data analysis and ensuring the accuracy of HR information system data. This role involves collecting, analyzing, and reporting on HR processes and data, serving as a liaison between Human Resources and the Information Services & Technology Department. The analyst will work independently under general supervision to complete time-sensitive operational and system tasks, while also preparing reports for executive leadership and collaborating with various departments to identify opportunities for process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between Human Resources and the Information Services & Technology Department to provide data analysis and leverage technology solutions.
  • Lead analysis to identify, correct, and re-engineer HR processes to ensure quality data.
  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports.
  • Communicate and validate requirements with relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases.
  • Assist and stay abreast with data/system updates and uploads in HR systems.
  • Prepare reports for executive leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data.
  • Use knowledge of data processing software and business development strategies to provide sound business decisions to Senior Management.
  • Work closely with business development professionals and other data and systems analysts within the County.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in collaboration with executives and other business players.
  • Participate in and/or lead collaborative and routine interdepartmental meetings.
  • Collaborate with various departments (i.e. Budget, Payroll, IS&T) and HR staff to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend system modifications.
  • Partner with various department staff members to collect and analyze data.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to understand business performance.
  • Use graphs, infographics, and other methods to visualize data.
  • Create reports for internal and external resources as needed.
  • Work with a team of analysts and other associates to process information.
  • Create presentations and reports based on recommendations and findings.
  • Review internal databases and pull data in accordance with management needs.
  • Compile written reports regarding certain data figures and turnover rates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Programming, Human Resources or related fields.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with large, complex data sets, cleaning data, creating data dashboards and visualization.
  • Proficient in creating queries, report writing, and presenting findings.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Technical knowledge regarding data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least two years work experience as a Data Analyst or Business Data Analyst.
  • Extensive experience working with ServiceNow, SAP, SuccessFactors.
  • Proficiency in PowerBI.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel to perform vlookups, pivot tables, merge spreadsheets, data validation, etc.
  • At least two years work experience in a Human Resources setting.
