About the position

The Human Resources Generalist, Benefits position at Lee County Port Authority focuses on benefit administration and requires comprehensive experience across various HR functions. The role involves collaborating with multiple departments to develop and implement innovative HR programs and processes that align with best practices. The position supports the goals and objectives of the Human Resources department and reports directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Lee County Port Authority's comprehensive benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, disability, FRS, life insurance, and 457 plans.
  • Administer and monitor special leave programs, including FMLA, STD, LTD, Leave Without Pay, and Administrative Leave, ensuring adherence to regulations.
  • Support new hire orientations, maintain accurate benefit records, and assist employees with program enrollment and understanding.
  • Act as the HIPAA Compliance Manager ensuring proper access controls and confidentiality for protected health information.
  • Lead wellness initiatives, chair the wellness committee, and organize activities like the Heart Walk, Lunch & Learns, blood drives, and mobile mammogram screenings.
  • Conduct research and analyze industry and employment trends, recommending best practices to the leadership team.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, interpret policies, and maintain detailed records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business management, public administration, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in HR functions, particularly in benefits administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, KRONOS timekeeping, Google applications, and HRMS software (such as Vista HRMS).
  • Strong project management skills and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Membership in professional HR organizations.
  • Certifications such as SPHR, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SHRM-CP.
  • Airport experience.
