About the position

The Human Resources Generalist - Benefits at Youngstown State University plays a crucial role in managing employee benefits and providing support throughout the employment lifecycle. This position involves overseeing benefit projects, serving as a liaison for employee inquiries, and ensuring effective communication of benefit changes. The role requires a strong understanding of human resources processes and the ability to assist in policy development and training initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees ongoing and special benefit projects in the assigned benefit program area.
  • Serves as a liaison and responds to inquiries from employees, administration, and external agencies.
  • Coordinates the entire benefit program for all university employees and communicates benefit changes.
  • Reconciles premium billing statements and develops training materials for employee benefits.
  • Trains employees on the HRIS and collaborates to identify training needs.
  • Supports labor relations functions as needed and enters transactions into the HRIS.
  • Instructs employees on procedures for submitting forms and updates them on new procedures.
  • Performs calculations to ensure accuracy in HRIS data and processes labor redistributions.
  • Administers the Flexible Spending 125 Plan and manages all related processes.
  • Provides input on new program design and maintains databases for employee assistance.
  • Conducts public relations activities and assists in preparing procedures manuals and forms.
  • Maintains filing systems and compiles information for internal and external reports.
  • Performs clerical duties and manages office business functions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and at least four years of experience in human resources administration or a related field.
  • Completion of at least a bachelor's degree and two years of experience in human resources administration or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, benefits administration, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in human resources or benefits administration.
  • Certificate from a nationally recognized Human Resources Organization such as SHRM or PHR.
  • Experience using Banner, Workday, or other benefit management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with collective bargaining agreements and/or labor unions.
