About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position at Sirva is a hybrid role based in Fort Wayne, IN, requiring onsite presence at the downtown office during normal business hours. This role is pivotal in partnering with leaders, key stakeholders, and HR colleagues to shape, develop, and deliver people plans and solutions that align with the needs and priorities of the organization. The HR Generalist will provide high-level support in people management and development across designated business units, ensuring that HR practices effectively translate business requirements into actionable solutions. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering key HR initiatives across various domains, including workforce planning, restructuring, resourcing, talent development, succession planning, skill development, reward and recognition, employee relations, employee engagement, and performance management. The role demands the ability to navigate ambiguity and make informed decisions in the absence of established protocols, processes, or procedures. Key functions of the HR Generalist include providing strategic business partnership to the executive management team, supporting the implementation of people plans, managing complex cross-functional people projects, and ensuring that HR policies reflect the business framework and employee brand. The role also involves talent management, succession planning, employee engagement strategies, resource planning, and organizational design, all aimed at fostering a high-performing workforce that aligns with Sirva's core competencies and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic business partnership to the executive management team by participating in management meetings and evaluating business needs.
  • Support the implementation of the company's people plans by working with employees and people leaders to develop a culture that reflects SIRVA's People Competencies.
  • Partner and coach managers to support the delivery of people plans and initiatives, encouraging accountability for front-line human resources.
  • Lead, manage, and deliver complex cross-functional people projects across the organization within specific timeframes.
  • Collaborate with HR Operations to ensure that people policies are tailored to reflect the business framework and employee brand.
  • Provide recommendations on talent management against business needs through the organization's TMS and ODR process.
  • Guide succession planning and support leaders in final resourcing decisions to ensure high-performing talent pipelines are in place.
  • Develop management capability to build leadership talent for the future.
  • Coach the leadership team to ensure they are delivering on their purpose and inspiring their teams.
  • Support managers in addressing underperformance in line with SIRVA policy and legislation.
  • Measure organizational health and lead employee engagement and reward strategies.
  • Identify engagement challenge trends and propose solutions to increase employee satisfaction.
  • Partner with CoE to leverage best practices for competitiveness and consistency in reward strategy.
  • Provide leadership support in managing workforce planning and participate in annual budget planning processes.
  • Support organizational design and provide recommendations for creating high-performing teams.
  • Create detailed job descriptions and support recruitment needs where required.
  • Lead reduction programs and provide guidance for restructuring exercises.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of HR experience (generalist or specialist)
  • Knowledge of current HR issues and trends with evidence of continuing professional development
  • Strong ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Skilled analytical thinker with the ability to assess requirements and select the best approach
  • Ability to manage people and resources to achieve complex objectives
  • Strong flexibility in managing changing priorities and absorbing new information
