About the position

The Human Resources Generalist II position at Iowa State University is an exciting opportunity for HR professionals with over three years of experience. Reporting directly to an HR Partner, the HR Generalist II will deliver professional-level HR advice and services, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of applicable policies and procedures. The position requires a working knowledge of Workday, which will be leveraged to complete necessary business processes effectively. In this role, the HR Generalist II will serve as the frontline HR guidance and customer service support for various units. Responsibilities include creating and managing positions, overseeing recruitment and hiring processes, tracking employment changes, processing pay changes, and managing academic appointments. The HR Generalist will also connect customers with appropriate departments for additional HR services as needed, ensuring compliance with all HR policies and procedures. The position involves advising managers and employees on HR policies, troubleshooting inquiries, and escalating complex HR issues through the appropriate channels. The HR Generalist will process HR business transactions in Workday, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and regulations. Additionally, the role includes providing proactive consultation on performance review processes, maintaining data integrity, and developing training on HR policies and processes. This intermediate-level position requires solid professional skills and the ability to apply broad knowledge to moderately complex issues, exercising judgment within defined procedures to resolve problems effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provides frontline HR guidance and customer service support to units regarding position management, recruitment, and employment changes.
  • Connects customers with appropriate departments for additional HR services as needed.
  • Maintains working knowledge of HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
  • Advises managers and employees on HR policies and procedures, troubleshooting inquiries as needed.
  • Escalates complex HR issues through appropriate channels within University Human Resources.
  • Processes HR business transactions in Workday, including reviews and approvals of manager-initiated processes.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Provides proactive consultation on performance review processes and performance improvement plans.
  • Maintains data integrity by reviewing data for accuracy.
  • Develops and delivers training on applicable HR policies and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • 3 years of related experience in Human Resources.

  • Experience working with managers on employee performance management matters, including employee and labor relations.
  • Experience implementing and administering HR policies and processes.
  • Experience organizing and implementing employee communication, training, and development initiatives.
