About the position

The Human Resources Generalist III position at the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (NMDHSEM) is designed to provide comprehensive support to staff, supervisors, and managers in various HR functions. This role is crucial in ensuring that the department operates efficiently and effectively in its mission to protect the people of New Mexico and the nation. The HR Generalist will be involved in a wide range of activities including job descriptions, recruitment, interviewing, hiring, equitable salary decisions, classification and compensation actions, specialized leave requests, and payroll processing. The HR Generalist will also consult with the HR Manager on strategic planning and policy changes as needed. In this role, the HR Generalist will prepare, analyze, track, and process personnel transactions, including hiring, compensation, and classification transactions. They will assist management in generating and analyzing requests for the creation, reclassification, and advertisement of positions. Ensuring that hire appointments and compensation actions are properly analyzed and vetted is a key responsibility. The HR Generalist will create job requisitions for posting, process applications through the proper procedures, determine candidate eligibility, and assist managers with interviews when necessary. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong computer skills, and the ability to analyze and problem-solve effectively. Experience in processing extended leave requests such as FMLA and parental leave, as well as payroll functions, is essential. Understanding federal and state regulations regarding FLSA and experience with the SHARE HCM module will also be beneficial.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in any field and one (1) year of experience in human resource operations; recruitment, selection, payroll, compensation and benefits administration, labor relations, investigations, HR related training experience and/or occupational analysis.
  • Experience in processing extended leave requests such as FMLA, Parental leave, etc.
  • Experience in processing and completing multiple payroll functions.
  • Understanding of Federal and State regulations regarding FLSA.
  • Experience with SHARE HCM module to include entry of various types of actions and generating reports.
