About the position

Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our Human Resources Department in a part-time temporary role. This position operates under the general supervision of the Human Resources Manager and plays a crucial role in supporting the HR function for an 800-employee operating unit. The HR Generalist will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties and will leverage their business knowledge and human resources expertise in areas such as employee relations, unemployment, policies and procedures, onboarding, and performance management. The HR Generalist will ensure compliance with company guidelines and policies, as well as state and federal regulations throughout the hiring process. Responsibilities include documenting and maintaining employment-related activities, assisting with benefits and compensation administration, and keeping abreast of changes in employment law. The role also involves preparing end-of-employment documents, coordinating with corporate benefits administration, and addressing employee inquiries regarding various HR-related issues. Additionally, the HR Generalist will coordinate the E-Verify program and manage labor law poster renewals for all EGS offices, while ensuring confidentiality and protecting organizational information.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the HR Team members to support all aspects of the HR function for an 800-employee operating unit.
  • Ensures that the hiring processes comply with company guidelines and policies as well as state and federal regulations.
  • Assists with ensuring employment related activities related to hiring, personnel status changes, and terminations are properly documented, entered, and maintained.
  • Assist in administering benefits and compensation.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in employment law.
  • Prepares all end of employment documents for exiting employees and reviews documents/procedures with departing staff.
  • Assists in coordination with corporate of benefits administration and identifies and works with Corporate to correct benefit errors and issues.
  • Coordinates with Unemployment Claims third party administrator by completing requests for information regarding Unemployment Compensation Claims.
  • Assists with addressing employee inquiries regarding benefits, 401(k) Retirement Plan, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, compensation, personnel policies, and any other HR related issues.
  • Coordinates and administers the E-Verify program.
  • Coordinates yearly renewal and administration of labor law posters for all EGS offices.
  • Conducts I9 audit for EGS and maintains I9 files according to DHS requirements.
  • Protects organization and employees by keeping information confidential.

Requirements

  • Very strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Understanding and experience using an HRIS to generate reports and implement staff changes.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes intense work environment.
  • Proactive, positive problem-solving skills and an energetic, enthusiastic collaborative team player.
  • Understanding of and skill in applying the principles, practices, and procedures of human resource administration in recruitment, employment, compensation, and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting and applying state and federal statutes and applicable rules and regulations related to human resources management.
  • Ability to remain objective in all situations and always use discretion.
  • Ability to exercise poise, tactfulness, and diplomacy in sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and/or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification preferred but not required.
  • Ability to search for pertinent facts and data, analyze and evaluate information, and form accurate conclusions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Talent Management Systems, experience with Taleo preferred but not required.
  • Experience using HRIS preferred, but not required.
