About the position

The HR Generalist - Onboarding Specialist at Catawba College plays a vital role in facilitating a smooth onboarding process for new faculty, staff, and administrators. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of onboarding, from orientation to integration into the campus community, while also supporting various HR functions such as recruitment, benefits administration, and employee relations. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire onboarding process for new hires, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and state/federal regulations.
  • Design and facilitate new hire orientation sessions, providing information on university policies, benefits, culture, and available resources.
  • Serve as a point of contact for new employees during their first few months, addressing questions and supporting their integration into the campus community.
  • Develop and distribute onboarding materials, welcome packets, and checklists.
  • Maintain regular communication with new hires to ensure they are well-informed and engaged throughout the onboarding process.
  • Work closely with department managers and supervisors to ensure all onboarding needs are met, including setting up workspaces and technology access.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection process by posting job openings, screening applicants, and coordinating interviews.
  • Address employee inquiries and concerns related to benefits, policies, and workplace issues.
  • Assist employees with benefits enrollment and management, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Maintain accurate records in the HR information system (HRIS), tracking employee information, benefits, and performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in human resources, with a focus on onboarding, recruitment, or employee relations.
  • Experience in higher education or a similar complex, multi-stakeholder environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of employment laws, onboarding best practices, and HR systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good judgment, and handle sensitive matters with professionalism.
