About the position

BECO Asset Management is a Chesapeake-based property management company with over 2,000 apartment units at eight properties and over 320,000 square feet of office, retail, and industrial commercial space. We are looking for a Human Resources Generalist to assist in running the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department. This role includes a variety of responsibilities such as hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. The Human Resources Generalist will play a crucial role in ensuring that the HR department operates smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the overall success of the organization. In this position, the Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and facilitating the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions. This involves collaborating with departmental managers to understand the skills and competencies required for various openings. The role also includes conducting or acquiring background checks and employee eligibility verifications, implementing new hire orientation, and managing employee recognition programs. Additionally, the Generalist will perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, which encompass compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development. The Human Resources Generalist will handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff. Participation in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations is also a key responsibility. Maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as recommended best practices, is essential. The Generalist will need to stay informed about trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. Additionally, assisting with payroll functions and performing other duties as assigned will be part of the role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in human resources.
