Illinois Action for Children (IAFC) is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Chicago, IL. This position plays a crucial role in coordinating various Human Resources initiatives related to staffing and benefits, while also assisting the Assistant Director and Vice President of Human Resources with a variety of HR-related activities. The HR Generalist will be responsible for recruitment, employee relations, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures across all departments. The ideal candidate will work independently with minimal supervision, adhering to organizational standards and promoting core workplace capabilities such as accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement, and effective communication. In this role, the HR Generalist will coordinate benefits compliance reporting, ensuring that all required reports, such as EEO-1, VETS, and OSHA, are submitted accurately and on time. The incumbent will research and review HR processes to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, providing recommendations for necessary changes. Additionally, the Generalist will manage special projects, maintain project plans, and prepare HR scorecard summaries to track departmental performance. The recruitment responsibilities include collaborating with management to identify staffing needs, conducting interviews, and recommending candidates for vacant positions. The HR Generalist will also schedule and conduct new hire orientations and assist in training sessions for both new and current employees. Building strong relationships across the organization is essential for delivering value-added services to management and employees, as well as addressing employee concerns and inquiries regarding policies and procedures. The HR Generalist will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, handle sensitive and confidential matters discreetly, and manage multiple tasks effectively. This position requires a strong understanding of employee relations and employment law, as well as the ability to provide internal consulting to management. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and will be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task effectively.
