About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist plays a crucial role in supporting the overall human resources functions within Horizon House, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). This multifaceted and proactive position involves a wide range of responsibilities, including employee and union relations, workers' compensation, training, leave of absences, full cycle talent acquisition, benefits administration, and compliance with employment law. The primary goal of this role is to contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive and productive inclusive workplace culture that aligns with the values of Horizon House, ensuring the well-being and engagement of employees. In this role, the Human Resources Generalist acts as a people advocate, providing exceptional customer service by greeting and welcoming staff, and delivering an efficient, friendly, and streamlined HR advisory service. The responsibilities also include managing the full cycle of recruitment, which encompasses sourcing candidates, job advertisements, scheduling interviews, screening applicants, conducting reference and background checks, preparing offer letters, onboarding new hires, and facilitating new hire training. The Generalist ensures a quality engagement experience for candidates from application through to onboarding. The position also requires applying in-depth knowledge of company policies, union contracts, and various employment laws to support employee relations matters. This includes providing support to staff in resolving workplace issues, coaching management on employee counseling, and advising on appropriate corrective actions. Additionally, the Generalist administers employee benefits programs, maintains group benefit databases, and serves as the primary point of contact for benefit-related inquiries, including open enrollment and claims. Moreover, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing leave of absences, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and supporting employees in their leave requests. They also ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by engaging in the interactive process to provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. Participation in staff programs and events, compliance monitoring, performance management support, and managing workers' compensation claims are also key aspects of this role. The Generalist processes and maintains accurate employee records and conducts audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
