The HR Generalist will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including personnel management, recruitment, insurance claims, safety, and benefits administration. In the personnel management aspect, the HR Generalist will provide orientation for new hires, maintain employee databases, and ensure that all personnel files are compliant with organizational standards. This role requires a strong understanding of the Employee Handbook and the ability to assist in employee relations, conduct training sessions, and manage performance reviews. The HR Generalist will also be tasked with developing effective communication networks within the organization to foster a positive work environment. Recruitment responsibilities include preparing job announcements, screening applications, conducting preliminary interviews, and coordinating background checks. The HR Generalist will work closely with hiring managers to ensure that the best candidates are selected for open positions. Additionally, the role involves managing workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely reporting of workplace injuries, and maintaining communication with third-party administrators regarding injured employees. Safety is another critical component of this position, as the HR Generalist will be familiar with The Salvation Army's Injury and Illness Prevention Program and will fulfill the duties of Safety Supervisor. This includes reporting incidents, maintaining OSHA logs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The HR Generalist will also oversee benefits administration, including open enrollment periods, employee contributions, and coordination with AFLAC representatives to ensure employees have access to necessary benefits. Overall, the HR Generalist is expected to uphold the values of The Salvation Army while managing sensitive information and providing guidance to employees on HR-related matters. This position requires a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while adhering to organizational policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide orientation for new hires and ensure proper documentation is signed and filed.
  • Enter new hire information into payroll/timekeeping systems.
  • Maintain an employee database for legal and statistical reporting.
  • Administer policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Assist with employee relations and develop effective communication networks.
  • Conduct in-service training for managers on safety training and labor laws.
  • Prepare internal and external job announcements and screen applications.
  • Conduct preliminary interviews and schedule candidates for further interviews.
  • Make timely reports to workers' compensation adjusters for workplace injuries.
  • Maintain records of Authorized Drivers and provide backup for HR/payroll matters.

Requirements

  • BA or BS Degree in Business or Certificate in Human Resources preferred.
  • Five years of experience in human resources and benefits administration.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to multi-task under deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, and HR/Payroll systems.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation, OSHA regulations, and labor laws.
  • Current valid Driver's license.
