About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position is a vital role within the HR department, responsible for administering health and benefit plans, including managing enrollments, changes, and terminations. This role requires processing necessary documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions. The HR Generalist will also perform customer service functions by addressing employee requests and questions, ensuring that all inquiries are handled promptly and effectively. In addition to these responsibilities, the HR Generalist will conduct audits of payroll, benefits, and other HR programs, recommending corrective actions as necessary. The position involves managing all employee leaves of absence, including COBRA, FMLA, and other types of leave, while coordinating premium payments. The HR Generalist will assist in recruitment initiatives, utilizing Applicant Tracking System software to monitor incoming applicant flow and coordinating interviews for hiring managers. This includes conducting reference checks and evaluating applicants by discussing job requirements and qualifications with managers. The onboarding process for new hires in the New Mexico region will also fall under the purview of the HR Generalist, ensuring that all new hire paperwork is completed and coordinating pre-employment drug tests and background checks. The HR Generalist will collaborate with the Health and Safety Department during new hire orientation and will establish solid relationships with hiring managers and key leaders across the organization. Participation in administrative staff meetings, seminars, and conferences is expected to stay current on employment law and practices. The HR Generalist will provide administrative support to the HR function, including record-keeping, file maintenance, and HRIS entry. Additional tasks may include drafting memos and letters, creating presentation materials, and preparing weekly and monthly reports. The HR Generalist will also assist regional HR representatives as needed and attend training sessions to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Administers health and benefit plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Conducts audits of payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommends corrective action.
  • Processes Medical Support Orders and coordinates qualified orders with payroll.
  • Manages all employee leaves of absence, including COBRA, FMLA, administrative and unpaid leave, and coordinates premium payments.
  • Assists in providing administration and technical assistance in recruiting initiatives for HR and business development as needed.
  • Uses Applicant Tracking System software to track and monitor incoming applicant flow for posted positions and coordinates interviews for hiring managers.
  • Assists in evaluation applicants by discussing job requirements and applicant qualifications with managers.
  • Assists in the onboarding of new hires for the New Mexico region, ensuring completion of new hire paperwork, coordinating pre-employment drug tests and background checks.
  • Assists during new hire orientation in collaboration with the Health and Safety Department.
  • Establishes and maintains solid relationships with hiring managers and key leaders across the organization.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings, seminars, conferences as needed to stay current on employment law and employment practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or related field preferred.
  • Two (2) years of HR Generalist experience; HR administrative experience with an emphasis in benefits administration preferred or may substitute 2 years with related administrative and management support experience.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred; certificates from HR-related seminars, conferences, and classes attended are valued, but not required.
