About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Concordia University is a pivotal role within the Human Resources Office, which is responsible for managing all personnel affairs of the university. This office operates under the supervision of the Chief Mission Officer and encompasses a wide range of functions including employee needs assessment, recruitment, hiring processes, performance management, employee compensation and benefits, training and development, maintenance of employment records, and ensuring compliance with government regulations and reporting requirements. The HR Generalist will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations and initiatives of the Human Resources Department, ensuring that all activities align with the university's mission. In this role, the HR Generalist will directly report to the Human Resources Director and will have significant interactions with supervisors, employees, and external stakeholders. The position requires a proactive approach to facilitate smooth operations within the department. Key responsibilities include managing employee classification, pay, and timesheet records, as well as serving as the primary point of contact for benefits-related inquiries. The HR Generalist will collaborate with insurance providers, educate employees about their benefits, oversee the enrollment process for new hires, and ensure accurate deductions for employee benefits. Additionally, the role involves preparing the Annual Compensation Report and managing the distribution of ACA 1095-C forms. The HR Generalist will also assist in employee relations by conducting investigations into workplace issues, serving as a Title IX investigator, and facilitating training sessions for supervisors. The position includes managing employee performance reviews and ensuring compliance with mandatory training requirements. Furthermore, the HR Generalist will handle workers' compensation claims, providing guidance and support to employees throughout the claims process, and maintaining accurate records of all claims. Overall, this position is integral to the effective functioning of the Human Resources department and contributes significantly to the fulfillment of the university's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Enter employee classification, pay, and timesheet data.
  • Train employees on how to use the online timesheet system.
  • Ensure data accuracy by auditing HR data.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits questions.
  • Collaborate with insurance providers regarding employee benefits.
  • Educate employees on the suite of benefits available to them.
  • Oversee enrollment of new hire benefits and ensure accurate deductions.
  • Prepare the Annual Compensation Report (ACR).
  • Enter 1095-C information and distribute annual ACA 1095-C forms to employees.
  • Coordinate campus wellness events.
  • Assist the HR Director with workplace investigations for complaints and conflicts.
  • Serve as Title IX investigator and attend relevant trainings.
  • Conduct training sessions, workshops, and seminars for supervisors.
  • Manage employee performance reviews and oversee training using the online portal.
  • Serve as the primary contact for work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Collaborate with Campus Safety on injury reports and claims management.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all workers' compensation claims.
  • Assist in the overall workflow of the Human Resources department and provide backup coverage for onboarding and exits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Five years of related experience and/or training in Human Resources.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with high integrity.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent follow-up skills.
  • Relationally savvy, demonstrating partnering and influencing skills across the organization.
