About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position at Children's Hope Alliance is a pivotal role that will commence in October 2024, with interviews and onboarding taking place prior to this date. Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director of Human Resources will be responsible for planning, leading, directing, developing, and coordinating the policies, activities, and staff of the HR department. This role is crucial in ensuring legal compliance and the effective implementation of the organization's mission and talent strategy. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Senior Director to understand the organization's goals and strategies related to staffing, recruiting, and retention. This includes planning, leading, developing, coordinating, and implementing various HR policies, procedures, processes, training initiatives, and surveys to support the organization's compliance and strategic needs. The role also involves administering or overseeing human resource programs, including compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development. In addition, the Assistant Director will identify staffing and recruiting needs, develop and execute best practices for hiring and talent management, and monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. The position requires maintaining knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law, applying this knowledge to recommend changes in policy and practice to the Senior Director. The role also includes facilitating professional development and training for HR staff, ensuring effective management of HR-related information, and developing a robust Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program. The Assistant Director will also create or review job descriptions, participate in progressive discipline procedures, and assist with new employee orientation and training. Maintaining strict confidentiality and discretion is paramount, as is the ability to report any out-of-compliance or unsafe activities to the supervisor. The role includes supervisory responsibilities over the HR team, including assigning work, designing workflows, and managing time effectively. Overall, this position is integral to enhancing the mission of Children's Hope Alliance and ensuring a professional, compliant, and effective HR function.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement HR policies, procedures, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys.
  • Administer or oversee the administration of human resource programs including compensation, benefits, leave, and performance management.
  • Identify staffing and recruiting needs and develop best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law.
  • Facilitate professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Ensure HR-related information is managed in the Agency-selected employee management software.
  • Develop and maintain an effective Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program.
  • Create or review job descriptions as needed.
  • Participate in administering progressive discipline procedures and new employee orientation.
  • Train employees on Human Resources-related topics as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and exhibit discretion at all times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or equivalent.
  • At least two years of human resource management experience required.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Human Resource Technology Programs, Training Software, and MS Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Professional demeanor with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, multi-task, and handle numerous projects at once.
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication and interpretation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Microsoft Word and other MS Office applications.
