About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) plays a crucial role within the People Service Center and HRIS, ensuring that efficient and knowledgeable HR services are provided to the university community. This position is responsible for managing and triaging HR inquiries, facilitating employee life cycle changes, and overseeing general HR administration. The HR Generalist will work closely with other HR team members to maintain up-to-date tools and resources, while also identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of HR services. The incumbent will be tasked with completing personnel transactions and maintaining associated records, ensuring compliance with applicable labor laws and regulations. In this role, the HR Generalist will document all contacts and outcomes using service management software, and utilize a knowledge base to respond to both internal and external customer inquiries. Staying informed about all human resources programs is essential, as the Generalist will counsel current employees on benefits, compensation, and talent management inquiries. The onboarding process for new hires will also fall under the Generalist's responsibilities, along with processing transactions related to the employee life cycle, including new hires, promotions, transfers, and secondary payments. While the Generalist will handle basic HR issues and problems, more complex matters will be referred to higher-level HR team members for resolution.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience in a Human Resources role.
  • Knowledge of employment and labor law.
