About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position at Everett Public Schools is a full-time role that operates under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources. This position is integral to the day-to-day operations of the HR department, ensuring that the organization provides maximum support to teachers, administrators, and support staff. The HR Generalist will be responsible for a variety of essential functions that include processing new hire paperwork, managing fingerprinting results, and assisting with new-hire orientations. The role requires a thorough understanding of employee benefits and applicable laws, as well as the ability to effectively interpret FMLA and ADA implications related to leaves of absence and disabilities. In addition to these responsibilities, the HR Generalist will perform quality checks of benefits-related data, process and administer all leave-of-absence requests, and coordinate sick bank activities. The position also involves maintaining various records, including longevity and job/salary records in the MUNIS system, and managing college credit submissions. The HR Generalist will work collaboratively with other team members, especially during peak times, and will be expected to assist with various projects as needed. This role is crucial for maintaining confidentiality and data integrity while ensuring compliance with district policies and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software. A Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field, along with at least two years of experience in an HR role, is preferred. The position is designed for individuals who can work successfully in a deadline-based environment and are committed to supporting the educational mission of the Everett Public Schools.

Responsibilities

  • Processes new hires paperwork including background checks and meets with new staff members to review paperwork and answer questions.
  • Manages and reviews fingerprinting results; prepares Suitability letters and reports.
  • Assists with new-hire orientations.
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability, and FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Assists with the open enrollment process.
  • Coordinates all sick bank activities and information with the Committee.
  • Maintains Longevity records and Job/Salary records in MUNIS according to contract requirements.
  • Manages and processes college credits submissions and notifications; assists with employee questions.
  • Maintains MTRS information for employees.
  • Coordinates with City Retirement and Human Resources staff on benefits-related matters.
  • Maintains a filing system of memorandums or other instructions from the Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations or other designated employees indicating a change or modification in salary, stipends, and other forms of compensations.
  • Processes name and address change requests.
  • Becomes familiar with duties of other team members and assists them with projects in peak flow time; when requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
  • Ability to work successfully and collaboratively in a deadline-based environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and data integrity.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field of study or at least two years experience in Human Resources role.
