About the position

Elk Creek Forest Products is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support the goals and activities of the human resources team. This role is essential in performing a broad spectrum of HR-related functions, including compliance, employment administration, record maintenance, salary and benefits administration, safety, wellness, and personnel development. The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating employment documentation, policies, and procedures, ensuring that all updates are regularly performed. The position requires processing changes and maintaining personnel-related data and employment records in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and electronic files, adhering to state, federal, and company recordkeeping requirements. The HR Generalist will also review employee and company training records for compliance, develop and maintain training schedules, and ensure that the company remains compliant with applicable employment laws and regulations. In addition, the HR Generalist will support employee compensation and benefits administration by compiling market research, participating in salary surveys, and coordinating open enrollment and new hire enrollment processes. The role also involves assisting in resolving employment conflicts, documenting corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with safety laws and regulations. Other responsibilities include performing new hire onboarding and employee offboarding processes, assisting in the development of wellness programs, and processing semi-monthly payroll. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of labor law, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, communicate, and regularly perform updates on employment documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Process changes and maintain personnel-related data and employment records in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and electronic files in accordance with state, federal, and company recordkeeping requirements.
  • Review employee and company training records for compliance and develop, maintain, and schedule trainings accordingly.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Support employee compensation and benefits administration through compiling market research, participating in applicable salary surveys, updating wage forecasting data, and presenting information to ownership team.
  • Assist in resolving employment conflicts and properly documenting corrective action, performance improvement, and employee coaching.
  • Ensure company's compliance with applicable state and federal safety laws, regulations, and best practices in preventing workplace injury.
  • Perform new hire onboarding and employee offboarding processes.
  • Assist in the development, maintaining, and administration of company wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in processing semi-monthly payroll utilizing HR and Payroll system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field highly preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of Human Resources experience required.
  • Strong understanding of labor law and employment equity regulations.
  • Proven and effective HR administration skills.
  • Established understanding of HR functions and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently.
  • Show initiative with strong desire to learn.
  • Strong ethical conduct and confidentiality.
