About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Powell Fabrication & Manufacturing LLC is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in supporting the organization across various human resources functions. Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, this position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including recruitment, onboarding, recordkeeping, employee relations, benefits administration, training, unemployment, immigration, and special projects. The HR Generalist will also assist in the administration of environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and compliance, ensuring that the organization adheres to all relevant regulations and standards. In this role, the HR Generalist will actively participate in recruiting efforts, which includes attending career fairs, posting job openings, conducting interviews, and performing reference and background checks. They will also be responsible for planning and conducting new employee orientations to foster a positive attitude towards the company’s goals and to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires. The HR Generalist will serve as a point of contact for employees, addressing questions and concerns regarding HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook interpretations. Additionally, the HR Generalist will assist in managing employee disputes, disciplinary actions, offboarding processes, and conducting exit interviews for both voluntary and involuntary terminations. They will support the company’s performance management system by compiling and maintaining personnel statistics, performance records, job descriptions, and onboarding plans, while ensuring that quarterly employee development meetings and annual reviews are completed in a timely manner. The HR Generalist will also play a key role in educating employees about Powell’s benefit plans and act as a liaison between employees and third-party representatives for each benefit. The position involves planning and participating in company events aimed at recognizing and benefiting employees, such as picnics, luncheons, retirement parties, and team-building functions. The HR Generalist will collaborate with the Finance department to maintain the payroll system, ensuring that all withholdings and deductions associated with employee pay are accurate. Staying informed of current employment laws is essential, as the HR Generalist will assist in ensuring that all employment policies align with federal and state laws. Furthermore, they will contribute to Powell’s safety program by enforcing policies, developing and delivering monthly training, and maintaining safety programs and training materials. Overall, the HR Generalist will perform other functions as communicated by the Human Resources Manager or executive leadership, embodying the values and standards of Powell Fabrication & Manufacturing LLC.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting efforts including attendance at career fairs, posting positions, interviewing, reference and background checks, and pre-employment testing.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals and ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
  • Answer employee questions and concerns regarding Human Resource policy, procedures, or employee handbook interpretations.
  • Assist with employee disputes, disciplinary actions, offboarding, exit interviews, voluntary and involuntary terminations.
  • Assist with company performance management system including compiling and maintaining personnel statistics, performance records, job descriptions, onboarding plans, and ensuring quarterly employee development meetings and annual reviews are completed timely.
  • Assist with developing, measuring, improving and achieving key human resource measurable performance indicators.
  • Educate employees regarding Powell benefit plans and serve as the liaison between them and applicable third party representatives for each benefit.
  • Participate in and help plan company events held for the benefit and recognition of employees.
  • Work with Finance to maintain payroll system and verify withholding and/or deductions associated with employee pay are accurate.
  • Stay informed of current employment laws and assist with ensuring that all employment policies align with federal and state law.
  • Assist with Powell safety program, including enforcement of policies, development and delivery of monthly training, and maintenance of safety programs and training.
  • Follow Powell procedures and policies at all times.
  • Perform other functions as communicated by Human Resources Manager or executive leadership.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, or relevant degree with human resource experience.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification highly desired.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form with proper grammar.
  • Proficient with MS Office, HRIS systems, and comfortable learning new technical systems as needed.
