About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position at Taos County, NM, is a full-time role that provides essential administrative support to the Human Resources Department. Under the guidance of the Human Resources Director and/or Supervisor, the Generalist will engage in a variety of personnel matters, including recruitment, employment, compensation, classification, and benefits administration. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the HR department operates smoothly and efficiently, handling complex clerical duties and assisting in various HR programs and procedures for all County employees. The Generalist will be responsible for evaluating job positions, determining classification and salary, and preparing and maintaining personnel records. This includes ensuring the accuracy of both hard copy and electronic files, updating records to reflect personnel actions such as discipline, recognition, and promotions. The role also involves preparing personnel reports, salary action documents, and submitting payroll information to the finance department while maintaining the integrity of confidential records. In addition to administrative tasks, the Human Resources Generalist will assist in designing and modifying benefits policies, analyzing compensation policies, and preparing information to inform employees about benefits and personnel policies. The position requires collaboration with department directors and supervisors to manage employee probationary periods and longevity increases, as well as coordination of career fairs and recruitment efforts. The Generalist will also participate in the interview process, conduct orientations for new hires, and ensure compliance with HR-related laws and regulations. Overall, this position is integral to the HR department's success and the well-being of Taos County employees.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in evaluating job positions, determining classification, exempt or non-exempt status, and salary.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining personnel records and handbooks, ensuring accuracy of all file content.
  • Prepares various personnel reports and proposed salary action documents according to County ordinance and union contract.
  • Assures the integrity of confidential records and monitors access to comply with County policies.
  • Tracks and manages employee probationary periods, longevity increases, and temporary employment efficiently.
  • Assists in designing, evaluating, and modifying benefits policies to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
  • Prepares and distributes information to inform employees of benefits, compensation, and personnel policies.
  • Coordinates career fairs, booths, and disbursement of information about Taos County employment opportunities.
  • Develops, posts, and advertises position vacancy announcements, ensuring proper distribution.
  • Participates in screening interviews and facilitates interview selection panels.
  • Performs orientations for new hires and processes all new hire paperwork.
  • Coordinates with other departments to schedule applicants for testing as required.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable HR and employment-related laws and regulations.
