About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry plays a crucial role in managing a variety of human resources functions. This position is responsible for implementing and assisting in the formulation of initiatives for staff development programs, assessing departmental training needs, and evaluating employees' skills to make informed recommendations. The HR Generalist will plan, schedule, and conduct workshops, develop training materials, and execute employee engagement programs and initiatives. Additionally, this role involves partnering with the Director to resolve complex employee relations and performance issues, providing counsel to department supervisors and employees on preventing and resolving workplace conflicts. The HR Generalist will also interpret federal and state employment laws, as well as University human resources policies and terms of collective bargaining agreements. Consulting with the Director and the Human Resources Division for guidance and clarification will be essential in this role. The position requires a proactive approach to managing human resources functions and a commitment to fostering a positive work environment within the College of Dentistry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a variety of human resources functions for NYU College of Dentistry.
  • Implement and assist with formulating initiatives for staff development programs.
  • Assess departmental training needs and employees' skills and make recommendations.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct workshops.
  • Develop training materials.
  • Plan, execute, and deliver employee engagement programs and initiatives.
  • Partner with the Director to resolve complex employee relations and performance problems.
  • Counsel department supervisors and employees on preventing and resolving workplace issues.
  • Interpret federal and state employment laws, University human resources policies, and terms of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Consult with Director and Human Resources Division for guidance and clarification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 3 or more years of increasingly responsible professional-level experience as a human resources generalist or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of training, human resources, and experience managing staff, administrative processes, and projects.
  • Well-developed planning, analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, legislation, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and interpret policies and procedures, interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, and facilitate decision making.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Organizational Development or related area.
  • Human Resources certification (SHRM or other accredited certificate program).
  • Working knowledge of HRIS/HRMS systems.
  • Relevant professional-level experience as a human resources generalist in an academic environment.
