About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Specialized Pavement Marking, Inc. is a professional-level role that encompasses a variety of human resources functions. This position is essential for ensuring that the HR processes are executed smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the overall employee experience within the organization. The HR Generalist will be responsible for managing employee relations, training, employment processes, affirmative action, benefit management, and payroll functions. This role requires a proactive approach to HR management, ensuring compliance with various regulations and maintaining a positive workplace culture. In this role, the HR Generalist will prepare all necessary paperwork and schedules to facilitate a seamless onboarding process for new hires. This includes coordinating with various departments to ensure that new employees have an exceptional first-day experience. The HR Generalist will also handle all administrative tasks related to onboarding, new-hire orientations, and exit interviews, ensuring that data is accurately entered into the human resources information systems (HRIS) and that audits are conducted for compliance. Additionally, the HR Generalist will manage all leaves of absence, including FMLA, disability, and workers' compensation, coordinating with the Company Safety Manager when necessary. Providing guidance to employees and managers on HR policies and procedures is a critical aspect of this role, as is resolving HR inquiries or escalating them as appropriate. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for tracking compliance with mandatory training and continuing education, ensuring that employees meet all necessary requirements. The off-boarding process is another key responsibility, where the HR Generalist will ensure that all termination processes are followed correctly, and final pay is issued in a timely manner. This role will also involve assisting in the communication and rollout of new HR programs and policies, conducting audits of payroll and benefits programs, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of HR trends and regulatory changes. Overall, the HR Generalist plays a vital role in maintaining accurate employee records and supporting the HR department's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare paperwork and schedules for smooth new-hire onboarding process, coordinating with cross-functional departments.
  • Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding, new-hire orientations, and exit interviews, including data entry in HRIS.
  • Manage all leaves of absence (FMLA/OFLA, disability, workers comp, etc.), including coordination of disability claims.
  • Provide advice and assistance to employees and managers on HR policies, programs, and procedures; resolve HR inquiries or escalate appropriately.
  • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training and work assessments.
  • Manage the off-boarding process and ensure that all termination processes are followed correctly.
  • Assist with the communication and rollout of updated or new people programs and policies.
  • Conduct audits of various payroll, benefits, or other HR programs and recommend corrective action.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate employee records, including staff files and HRIS data.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a construction environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Multi-States in CA, WA, OR.
  • Experience in assisting in creating SOPs related to the employee lifecycle.
  • Experience with Federal Contractor Requirements.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, employee and union relations.
