About the position

Barrett Business Services, Inc. (BBSI) is dedicated to helping business owners focus on their core operations by providing outsourced HR, risk consultation, payroll administration, insurance, and recruiting services tailored for small and medium-sized businesses. The BBSI HR Generalist plays a crucial role in assisting Human Resources Consultants to deliver comprehensive HR support, which is essential for maximizing the management of human capital and enhancing the success and profitability of client companies. In this position, the HR Generalist will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include providing HR consultation and deliverables to clients, developing HR policies and procedures that align with the specific needs of business owners, and assisting in the administration and delivery of HR guidance and training. The role also involves supporting clients with situational HR guidance as issues arise, partnering with Payroll Specialists to streamline the onboarding process for new clients, and performing necessary administrative functions within the business unit. Additionally, the HR Generalist will be responsible for gathering client renewal details prior to renewal meetings, learning all aspects of payroll processing to serve as backup for Payroll Specialists, and overseeing workers' compensation claims administration in collaboration with Third Party Claims Administrators. Continuous self-development of HR knowledge is expected, along with mentorship from senior-level Human Resources Consultants, to ensure the HR Generalist remains effective in their role and contributes positively to the organization and its clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HR consultation and deliverables to small and mid-sized businesses.
  • Develop HR policies, procedures and programs to meet the business owner needs laid out in the client plan of action.
  • Assist Human Resources Consultants in the administration and delivery of HR guidance, training, and support to clients.
  • Support select clients with situational HR guidance as issues and concerns arise.
  • Partner with Payroll Specialist and Human Resources Consultants to streamline the new client onboarding process.
  • Support internal business unit with necessary administrative functions.
  • Assist Business Partner and Human Resources Consultants in gathering client renewal details prior to client renewal meetings.
  • Responsible for learning all facets of payroll processing, in order to serve as payroll relief and backup for Payroll Specialists.
  • Responsible for workers' compensation claims administration overview and interaction with partners at Third Party Claims Administrator (Corvel).
  • Responsible for continued self-development of HR knowledge, coupled with mentoring from senior level Human Resources Consultant.

Requirements

  • Ability to complete high-volume workload, meet critical deadlines and work through constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • At least intermediate level knowledge of all MS Office applications.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with valid automobile insurance meeting BBSI criteria.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of HR related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent in experience.
  • PHR, SPHR, CP or SCP strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in, or exposure to payroll processing, or an aptitude or ability to learn how to process payroll, including knowledge of wage and hour laws.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional operations or business experience outside of HR is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, develop and deliver successful presentations and facilitate trainings to individuals and groups at all levels of an organization.
