About the position

Shriners Children's Chicago is seeking a dedicated Human Resources Generalist to join our team of professionals committed to improving children's lives. In this role, you will ensure that the Human Resources Department operates smoothly and efficiently, addressing any issues that arise in a timely manner. You will play a crucial role in employee relations, coaching, benefits enrollment and management, recruiting, and onboarding. Additionally, you will maintain accurate personnel, payroll, and competency records for current employees, ensuring compliance with all relevant personnel and wage and hour laws. Your contributions will help foster a supportive and engaging work environment for our staff, which is essential for delivering the best care to our patients. As a Human Resources Generalist, you will be responsible for maintaining confidential personnel files for each employee and assisting department leaders in recruiting and selecting competent personnel according to established processes. You will ensure that all new employees complete the necessary pre/post-employment processes, including required documentation, and conduct general orientation on their first day of employment. You will also provide appropriate education and training, ensuring timely scheduling of new employee six-month and annual appraisals. It is essential to keep the performance management process current to facilitate timely annual evaluations for all employees. In addition to administering benefit programs to eligible employees within specified time frames, you will enhance efforts to maintain and increase employee morale and engagement. You will also oversee the offboarding process, ensuring that all departing employees complete the necessary termination paperwork and conduct exit interviews. This position requires a proactive approach to reviewing complaints and grievances, making necessary reports to the Director of Human Resources. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities, and you may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidential, individual personnel files on each employee.

  • Ensures that all employees that are offboarded complete the necessary termination papers and conducts the exit interview.
  • Reviews complaints and grievances, makes necessary oral and/or written reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, business or related field
  • Minimally 3+ years of HR Generalist experience

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of hospital or healthcare experience
  • Professional HR / Senior Professional HR Certification (PHR/SPHR)
