About the position

The Human Resources Generalist is a pivotal role within the Board of Water & Light, responsible for a wide array of HR functions that support the organization's mission and enhance employee engagement. This position serves as a leadership coach, employee advocate, recruiter, and compliance expert, ensuring that all HR policies and practices are up to date and effectively implemented. The HR Generalist will work closely with management to foster employee accountability and navigate complex employee relations issues with skill and professionalism. In this role, the HR Generalist will manage the recruitment process for assigned areas, which includes overseeing the applicant tracking system, screening candidates, and facilitating interviews. They will also be responsible for managing employment offers, onboarding, and orientation programs, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires. The HR Generalist will collaborate with the HR team to administer various human resource programs, including compensation, payroll, benefits, and performance management, while also addressing grievances and disciplinary matters. The HR Generalist will maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, reviewing policies and practices to ensure adherence to best practices. They will also serve as a project manager for HR initiatives, such as process improvements and HRIS implementations, while staying informed about trends and regulatory changes in the HR field. Additionally, the HR Generalist will support corporate initiatives related to employee wellness and diversity, equity, and inclusion, contributing to a positive workplace culture. This position requires predictable and reliable attendance, as well as the ability to perform other duties and projects as assigned. The HR Generalist will also be expected to follow safety protocols and participate in training as required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with employment policies and support management in employee accountability.
  • Manage the recruitment process including applicant tracking, screening, and interviewing candidates.
  • Oversee employment offers, pre-placement requirements, onboarding, and orientation programs.
  • Administer and execute human resource programs in collaboration with the HR team.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries and refer complex matters to appropriate staff.
  • Develop and maintain position descriptions and compensation recommendations.
  • Support labor relations and collective bargaining agreement matters.
  • Maintain compliance with employment laws and review policies for adherence.
  • Serve as Project Manager for HR projects and process improvements.
  • Stay informed about trends and best practices in human resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an HR Generalist or in relevant HR roles.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Working knowledge of human resources administration concepts and practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and heavy workloads.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
